MEET JACKIE
A WOMAN OF FAITH, A MOM, A LIFELONG EDUCATOR, AND INCUMBENT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER DELIVERING RESULTS FOR ALL STUDENTS.
As the title of this section states, I am a woman of faith, a proud mom of a 13 year old son, a lifelong educator, and one the current school board members working hard to deliver results for all students in the School District of Indian River County.
I began my teaching career in 1992 as a Teacher of English as a Second Language. Several years later I became an Assistant Principal. After relocating to Vero Beach nearly 14 years ago, I served as the Academic Dean at a Bible College located here in Vero Beach in addition to securing similar educational positions.

With almost three decades of educational experience as a teacher, school administrator, and now school board member, I have experience setting and creating policy, procedures, managing school personnel, and supervising teachers, and overseeing curriculum and instruction. I facilitated professional development for all faculty and staff. I have had experience working on a team with professional educators to write school improvement plans, set strategic goals for improving student achievement, and create steps to reach these goals. Likewise, as school board member, I have had the privilege of doing the same thing, setting and approving the strategic plan for the School District of Indian River County.

There is no other board member or candidate who champions school choice more than me. I have homeschooled my son for the past 8 years. It was the best decision for my family. I fully support a parent's right to choose the best educational environment for their child/ren. Ensuring this district has true school choice was one platforms I am proud to have advocated nearly four years ago (among others). Our school district now offers all children true school choice with transportation if needed. School choice is now a reality for every child in Indian River County Schools. Additionally, my support for charter and virtual schools never wavered.

I am re-running for the office of school board to continue the work I've begun, to bring positive change, and make a difference in the lives of ALL children because that is what I have dedicated my life to do. School board members play a pivotal role in the success of a community. We make budgetary decisions, set the goals as in the strategic plan of the district as well as set policies that drive the overall work in our district. School board members also have a pivotal role hiring and supervising the work of both the school district superintendent and the board attorney.
I will remain focused regarding issues of policy, school safety, instruction, assessments, culture and climate in our schools as well as in our district office. I will continue to vote conservatively with regard to fiscal management and accountability. Our school superintendent has recognized and welcomed my efforts to question and hold him accountable for the work he and his team are doing on a day to day basis. I will not stop working to accomplish what I was elected to do. I will continue to fight for more transparency such as ensuring alignment of our budget to our strategic plan, how we are allocating and budgeting ESSER funds, and how we are engaging parents/guardians as partners in the education of their children. I will keep listening to my constituents, advocate for parental rights, ensure schools are safe for all children, and research items that come to the board for discussion consent or action. I will continue to vote against curriculum or policies that do not align with the values of tax paying citizens of Indian River County, Florida State Statutes, the Florida Constitution, as well as executive orders and D.O.E. rules issued by Gov. Ron DeSantis or our Department of Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran.
I understand the significance of wading through the waters to affect change which will ultimately bring academic success for all children. These are the reasons why I am re-running as the most qualified candidate for School Board Member in District 2. I hope and pray to earn your vote on August 23, 2022.
